Art Deco Headpiece Sash: Australian Etsy Seller

This is a really lovely piece and sparkles far more in the light than can be captured by my photos.  While I did not do the beading, it took hours to hand sew the piece together.  It is beautifully made and is finished off with a soft suede non-slip backing.  Perfect for waist or head!
I think it lends itself to the art deco style quite nicely but is really quite timeless and could go with any style.

Dreamy Interiors: House Inspiration

Calm and elegant are the first words that pop to mind when looking at these images.  These are my two favourites spaces in designer, Athena Calderone's Brooklyn penthouse apartment. The tufted bench seat is glorious and so are the cement walls!  I love exposed walls, high ceilings and lots of light.  Those kitchen stools - gorgeous!

Inspirational Headpieces

These hair pieces looked so stunning on Kate Winslet!  I love how they really transformed her look on both occasions.  The lace piece by Philip Treacy is amazing, the lace looks like there is some wire sewn through for support and likely stiffened and it is just fabulous! Monochrome feathered fascinator by Natalie Ellner for Elsewhere - beautiful don't you think?

Early Birthday & Wedding Anniversary Celebrations

A small snapshot of my Friday night!  We went to Cafe Sydney and I would highly recommend it for a function or just dinner.  The earlier you book the better the view from your table!  This was ours... magnificent.  The wait staff were excellent, attentive but not overbearing.  There was the perfect amount of time left between courses and the food was delicious and decent portion sizes - especially my Qld prawns above!
It was such a special evening to celebrate with my immediate family - we even managed to get a pretty decent group shot taken by a passer by!  Good times, thanks family.

Vintage Wedding Inspiration

photo via
It is my 10th wedding anniversary today - quite the milestone!  We are going out for dinner tonight to celebrate with my family (also an early birthday dinner for me).   My own wedding photo from last years post and no my album still isn't done!  Half our problem is we are working from negatives not digital images :-( boo

I've been working on some vintage-inspired hair pieces which I just love.  Trying to get the feel and look of this era without replicated it exactly.  The headpieces above feel too heavy to me.  I love this wedding above it seems so modern for that era and the back bridesmaid looks a little like Maggie Gyllenhaal.  I'd love to know what colour they were.

Have a great weekend - I am feeling so blessed to be married to a kind, handsome, patient and authentic man - thankful to God for a great score.

Millinery Poupee Australia

Finally a poupee (pronounced poopay) {canvas head} to call my own and pin the life out of!!  This isn't a traditional Millinery poupee but a wig making head.  Since actual poupees are as rare as hen's teeth and I can't wait 10 years to find one - I was delighted to find this head selling in Australia.  I'm not sure what I will name her or which is the 'front' but I really need to cover those ugly staples at the bottom!!!

A new silk chiffon blossom... very ethereal in a beautiful Champagne colour finished off with Swarovski pearls and seed beads... heading out for a photo shoot soon.

Toulouse-Lautrec Exhibition: Canberra

Photo via Wiki
This morning I was lucky enough to see the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition with my two sister-in-laws (a treat in itself).  If you are considering going I would highly recommend it, I loved it and thought it was worth the ticket price ($25).
Photo
My favourite artworks were the posters and the gorgeous oil paintings on cardboard!  There is a cool Parisian themed gift shop at the end of the exhibition which had some fun things plus Lautrec posters for cheap!  It was a lovely way to spend a child-free morning with my visiting sisters :-)

Love Lace Exhibition: Part Two: Paper

Photo: Sotha Bourn
As you have gathered by now the Love Lace isn't all fabric lace but many interpretations of lace like objects!  These amazing laser cuts above and below called The Moving Pattern by artist, Tomy Ka Chun Leung.

This is a hand cut work below by Dutch artist, Marian Smit.  So intricate with a more rustic feel than the pieces above.  I am busting to have a go at trying paper cutting... not sure I would find it very relaxing though :-)
Lastly a truly jaw-dropping display, I can't quite believe these gowns and bonnets are made from paper...

These masterpieces are made from Canadian artist Noelle Hamlyn.  Noelle has smocked and embroidered Japanese gampi tissue to make these stunning gowns...  You can see more paper exhibits here.

Furniture Renovation: Vintage Children's Bed

Josiah's big bed is finally in his room!!!!!!  Hoorah!  He is awaiting a doona cover which I plan on making before winter, a cotton waffle blanket will do for now.  I would 'dearly' love this doona (duvet) cover.  These sheets are pretty fabulous too but not the price, they cost more than the bed!
This is how Porter's Paint colour: 'Obsidian' came out on the bed - I would have preferred it slightly darker grey but it still looks great.  I wasn't mentally prepared for the bed to sit so high off the ground?!  Most vintage beds I have seen have the wire mesh base with the metal rails you can just see above in black.  I am however thrilled with the result of my first ever complete furniture renovation!!

Some cool covers I have pinned!  I like the colours in this last cover not necessarily scallops for my little man.

Love Lace Exhibition: Part One - Fashion

I highly recommend this exhibition if you get a chance to go.  On at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum until June.  This dress by Alexi Freeman and Tessa Blazey is made entirely from metal chain and jewellery components.  With some inspiration from my favourite era to boot!
It was hard to narrow down a favourite as this dress by Toni Maticevski was just gorgeous too.  Photos below: Marinco Kojdanovski via Powerhouse Museum.

Another stunner was this black Chantilly lace necklace made from wire and Swarovski crystals by Lenka Suchanek.  It was quite hard to photograph on my point and shoot, better photo here.  I was kicking myself for not taking the Nikon.
This piece is a fabulous interpretation of what someone from an underwater society would wear, made from PET bottles.  Designed and made by Rui Kikuchi from Japan.
Last but not least this amazing blue tin brooch by Melissa Cameron, Melbourne.  This was so intricate and lovely.  I came away feeling so inspired, there is really something for everyone - the kids LOVED the interactive Wiggles exhibition.  The fabulous thing about having a Questacon membership is the Powerhouse was free entry for us, otherwise a family of four was around thirty dollars.
